Alliance Tournament XVII Brackets

On August 16 Alliance Tournament XVII applications closed with an incredible 75 alliances having applied to compete and over 618,000 PLEX submitted for the blind auction entries! The return of the tournament this year was announced as being a 32 team event with 8 slots reserved for winners of a single elimination feeder tournament, which is set to take place soon on September 4th and 5th. This is the second largest Alliance Tournament signup number in AT history, and so it makes for a very fun challenge to give all these alliances a quality event.

Feeder Tournament Pressure Valve – A Slight Change in Format

Due to the incredibly high volume of teams which signed up to compete, some changes are being made to the format of the event to relieve some of the pressure on teams in the feeder bracket and prevent the feeder bracket from being a larger affair than the main tournament itself. To this end, an additional 8 teams are being taken from the feeder bracket, for a total of 16 – meaning that the main tournament event is being expanded to a 40 team bracket. This reduces the number of consecutive wins required for teams to reach the main tournament by one round as teams only need to make it to the third round to earn their spot.

Example portion of the feeder bracket:
ATXVII Feeder Sample

In a 40 team bracket there are 24 teams which have byes in the first round, while the remaining 16 must face off against one another. These 16 non-bye positions will be seeded with the top 16 winners of the feeder event. Those 8 teams which will inevitably lose in the first round will drop to the losers bracket in the main event instead of being instantly eliminated as they would have been if only 8 teams were taken from feeders as originally announced.

The feeders will still be very bloody, as 35 teams will have their hopes of reaching the AT XVII main tournament crushed – but this is at least one less match to play before reaching the slightly more forgiving double elimination of the main event in November.

On August 20th, a stream was held live on twitch.tv/ccp where CCP Aurora and CCP Antiquarian drew team names for the random seeding for both the feeder and main tournament brackets. If you missed the show you can still go back and watch teams being drawn in the VOD. (Note that there was an error made whilst drawing the main bracket in which a team wasn’t correctly called – this has now been fixed in the official brackets)

You can find the brackets on the EVE Online community page on Challonge, where the official brackets for ATXVII are being hosted.

The feeder tournament will begin on September 4th at 14:00 EVE time so be sure to tune in and cheer on your team as they desperately try to make it to the main bracket. If you’re wondering when your team’s match starts, you can find more specific details on the full feeder tournament schedule here.

The feeder event will be held on Thunderdome – teams will be expected to be online and ready for their match 45 minutes before their scheduled match time. Information on how to access Thunderdome will be sent to captains and shared via the ATXVII Official Discord which we strongly recommend all participating pilots join!
