Introduction
Hello everyone my name is JJfever. I am a current and fairly new member of Retard Mafia and have been playing Archeage since before the release of Auroria. I have been in multiple guilds since then including noted ones like Team and Wicked (r.i.p.). Being in these guilds has given me a lot of game knowledge about the way combat in Archeage works and now i'm here to help spread the knowledge of Wicked and FC strategies to Retard Mafia. This guide will cover everything from why AoE mages are the best, the importance of healers/bards, the current state of archers, and why melee classes except Defense orientated melee classes are punished in open mass world PvP.

AoE Mages and FC
Some history on FC and "their" mageball strategy. Forestcrow actually adopted this strat from a Archage Korean guild named Reset an example can be found here:
(note everything that is done in this video. Doesn't it seem familiar?) =^)
Moving on from that there are two very effective builds for being an effective AoE mage that disrupts the enemy while dealing tons of damage to everyone around you.
The first build to be discussed is called Revenant (Sorc,Occult,Aura) that is able to pull everyone together with Vicous Implosion and on top of it stack a bunch of AoE skills from Sorcery and Occultism and you got yourself a deadly combination able to destroy entire raids with only a couple of greatly geared people.
Example Revenant build (able to be changed to your liking but should look similar in AoE skills):

The second build is called Battlemage (Sorc,Occult,Defense) and it is for a much more tanky experience but it also involves more coordination with the use of its imprisons. You also trade off mobility and the ability to pulling everyone together for being able to tank and absorb damage. But overall you should be doing the same AoE damage as a Revenant.
Example Battlemage build (able to be changed to your liking but should look similar in AoE skills);

DISCLAIMER: I am not a mage I just picked the skills I have tested or have seen while fighting with Wicked or against FC. As of now there is no real known counter to the AoE mageball it is either kill or be killed when the two collide. You can however negate most of the damage by using Protective Wings but expect to be quickly interrupted by your opponent.

The importance of Healers/Bards (Clerics)
Healers are the most important thing in PvP and it is unfortunate that most west guilds do not have a lot of them. There are 2 very good specs for healing but honestly any spec that has Vitalism and Auramancy (for the op conversion shield + antithesis combo) and has effective healing power is just fine. However what is important is keeping healers alive and making you more useful than just heals, this is why Templars and Clerics are the more effective healers in mass PvP.
First off is Templar (Vital,Aura,Defense) with the tankiness from defense and having the OP Vitalism + Auramancy combo you are guaranteed to be the longest living healer in your raid. You also have your own self kite with being able to shield slam anyone that jumps on you and quickly teleport back into your raid if you do get caught out of position.
Example Templar build (able to be changed to your liking):

The second build is Cleric (Vital,Aura,Songcraft) this is probably the best and I mean the best support class for PvP. The reason being is that including heals this spec gives extremely powerful buffs with the Songcraft performances that go from extremely amplifying damage to increasing your defenses by a ton,you can have multiple performances going so these buffs being given to the whole raid will surely have an impact in your PvP experience.
Example Cleric build (able to be changed to your liking):

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a healer so if you want to learn more about the specs please recall to a healer in the guild. I just did my best to pick which skills I usually see or saw while fighting in Wicked or fighting against FC.
P.S. more healers and Clerics would be nice =)

The current state of Archers
As we all know the mechanic for archers was changed in 1.7a so that you no longer gained bloodthirst breaking the Archery/Shadowplay combo deal. However, this doesn't mean having a bit of archers is a bad thing considering they have some pros in situational types of PvP because they are able to stay away from the front line and hammer at people + they have the ability to easily destroy vehicles like tanks or carts (very situational). Here are two builds that you may know already and one you may not have seen before.
The first build for archery has always been the same. Primeval (Arch,Aura,Shadowplay) still dominates the archery seen with its consistent amount of mobility and with it able to kite easier. You may know a lot about the class already so there is no real reason to go into it further.
Generic world PvP Primeval build ( able to change to your liking):

The next build is called Bastion (Archery,Aura,Defense) something that Forestcrow has been experimenting with lately for their archers. The spec consists of keeping archers in the back line able to kite and when they get jumped on be tanky enough not to die with the first landed skills. I can see it becoming something but it would need more testing to see if it is actually effective.
Example Bastion build (able to change to your liking):

DISCLAIMER: I am not an archer so if you are wanting to learn more about archery than find an archer in the guild that can help you start off. This builds are also from testing and observing archers in Wicked and in Forestcrow.

Melee and You
This is where my expertise shines. As a player that has played nothing but Blighter since getting to level 50 I have to say melee is very fun. What isn't fun is that being melee and unless you're tanky then you will automatically die first in a massive PvP fight. This is sadly why defense orientated melee classes are much better than that of Darkrunner or Shadowblade but I will go into that into the next section of the guide. But right now for melee there is only one spec that absolutely excels at mass PvP and in any situation at all and unfortunately it is the spec that I hate the most with all my heart and that spec is Abolisher (Battlerage,Aura,Defense) this spec, let me tell you this spec is ridiculous and has everything a melee player would want. It does a lot of damage, has decent mobility, is very very tanky, and is able to help setup your AoE mages with Vicous Implosion. God talking about Abolisher makes my blood boil since it is the best melee class and just does everything right.
Example Abolisher Build (able to change to your liking):
e21954bd5b.jpg

The next build is Hexblade (Battlerage,Defense,Witchcraft) and this can be a alternate build if you're looking for something different in terms of Crowd Control. I have personal experience with Hexblade since it is the class i leveled with and it is what I would prefer over Abolisher. The cons of Hexblade is that you lose the mobility and ability to Protective Wings your raid. So practically your only job is too be the biggest and most annoying thing to the enemy back line.
Example Hexblade build (able to change to your liking):
18bf0c8f3c.jpg

DISCLAIMER: If you're going to play melee it is recommended you play Abolisher but if you want to be a rebel like me and annoy everyone play Hexblade :)

Why not Darkrunner or Shadowblade?
In Wicked you were STRONGLY encouraged to respec to mage, in Forestcrow you are FORCED to respec. Here is why it's because unless you have good gear like the all Darkrunner/Shadowblade guild that is No Mad you will struggle to do anything against people in mass PvP content. Since you are on the front line you are guaranteed a respawn at Nui notification. Healers do not have time to waste mana on you, sorry but unless you have good gear and are actually able to full combo and kill someone in mass world PvP the heals are wasted on you and heals are very important. But it's ok to be a Dakrunner or Shadowblade just as long as you have another spec to go to when it is mass PvP time. It excels in small group PvP and 1v1 Arenas but you should know that the line is drawn at large scale PvP.

Buffs are Important
Buffs are one of the most important parts of mass PvP because unless you wipe your opponent you will not be revived so you need to stay alive as long as possible and do as much damage to them as long as possible. Buffs can also level the playing field if you are lets say a undergeared player fighting against a group of unique/celestial players. Here is a list of buffs that you should have if you are one of the respective classes including if they are crafted or bought elsewhere. Don't forget that there are people in the guild that can help you make these and all you have to do is supply the mats!

Conclusion
That concludes this guide just to recap what the guide was about. AoE mages & Healers are the best. Archers are meh at the moment but provide good utility in certain situations. Abolisher is the best melee class. Darkrunner/Shadowblade aren't very effective unless in good gear. Thank you and if you have any questions message me in game or ask an officer!
